Activity

  1. Think of your life as if it were a movie, where in the end you achieve your life purpose, while during the movie you use your strengths and values, solving everything you consider important in the world, enjoying what you like to do.
  2. Try to tell your story in one minute (using the structure of the hero’s journey).
  3. Now, turn your story into a simple and catchy phrase. Write a powerful statement to make yourself known to the world.

Evaluate your purpose.

One of the most efficient ways to assess is through rubrics. For your purpose, we have developed a specific rubric which we present below, considering the four elements your purpose must have: integrity, volition, goals, and transcendence. Each element can be assessed in terms of fulfillment, partial fulfillment, or non-fulfillment. We recommend that you review your purpose statement that you have been creating and assess it against the fulfillment criteria of each element.

Criteria Fulfillment Partial fulfillment Non-fulfillment

Integrity

It is a deep reason that impacts your life, both personally and professionally.

It is a deep reason, but it is either professional or purely personal, it does not manage to integrate both.

There is not a reason that you can carry towards one or both aspects.

Volition

The statement is defined by your own decision. It reflects your free will.

The statement is defined as one's own decision, but it has traits that denote the need to please others.

The statement lacks volition; it reflects the interests of someone other than you.

Goals

It meets the SMART principles of purpose definition.

It sets goals but lacks one of the SMART elements.

It does not indicate achievements or does not meet any of the SMART elements.

Transcendence

There is a clear link between the purpose and the value added to society in a UN objective.

It mentions society, but there is no direct connection between your purpose and the UN objectives.

It does not reflect a benefit towards society.

You have made it!

Now you have a purpose of life made consciously with the help of the four elements that you have already worked on (strengths, values, interests, and likes). Additionally, you have expressed it in an inspiring phrase that will surely help you stay motivated and make the right decisions to achieve that purpose.

Your story becomes your life’s purpose statement from today. We can affirm that you have a clear purpose and that it motivates you to make decisions that will lead you to make that story that you have talked about and written today come true.
